Amman, Jordan

Known in Ancient Roman times as ‘Philadelphia’, the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom traces its history back 8,000 years and the remains of ancient civilisations that are scattered around the city are proof of that. Amman is currently home to almost half of Jordan's population and is sprawled over 19 hills which are covered in a mix of light-coloured stone houses, while at the city’s core is a rowdy, labyrinth-like downtown area filled with street markets.
